As a sat alone in Theater Five with a small popcorn, I began to get a little nervous. Here I was -- twenty years old and a senior in college about to watch a storyline that resonated so much with my fourteen- seventeen-year-old self. The self that frequently stayed home on the weekends to listen to bands that were too sophisticated for her. The self that read Charles Bukowski and Sylvia Plath and was scared yet comforted to think that these might be her only friends. And the self that was never quite cool enough because it wasn't cool to publish poetry that you write (or to even write poetry). But this movie made me miss that me and I never thought anything could do that to me.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is the type of film that will leave you dizzy while you smile and tear up at the same time. You may even leave the theater feeling like you are right next to your high school self.
