The Page.

When I was an intern at Focus Features, I got to work with people that I will never forget. I believe that they will never actually understand how grateful I am that I had the opportunity to learn from them. The  things that they taught me range from professionalism to personable. One of them was The Page (number two to be exact). First, I want to say that everyone will know The Page soon, probably because she will become the most wonderful publicist in the music industry or because she has simply made the world more beautiful or whimsical This will most likely include the following: transportation by bikes with baskets, lots of twine, rooftops with projectors, Bill Murray as president, records as a form of currency, and the world will look like that antique shop minus the smell. It will most likely be both.

When I left Focus Features, she crafted this beautiful runaway kit as an owe to our devotion to Moonrise Kingdom and my current state of having no idea what to do. My runaway kit is held together by a floral scarf that may or may not have once decorated the neck of an elderly woman on her first date. Inside the scarf holds all the equipment, each with an explanation, that I will need on my travel. These are listed below:

Item: Floral Scarf
Explanation: "...so you can look gam, even on your worst hair days."

Item: Toot - Hummer
Explanation: "...if you get lost and need to be found"

Item: Postcards from New York & New Jersey
Explanation: "...postcards from your home and your new york home."

Item: A pouch full of a deer caricature, a rock, another rock, and a marble
Explanation: "...some good luck charms to help you on your adventure (a drawing of a heart)"

Item: I (heart) NY deck of cards
Explanation: "...in case you make some new friends along the way!"

Item: A bottle with a message in it
Explanation: The message in the bottle is accidentally stuck. I am currently searching for tweezers.

In your head you should be imagining the most adorable travel kit to date in all of history. I would post a picture, but she always made up these sweet stories and images for things and I want you to practice doing that. I have been and it has been quite amazing.

Each time I need to write a paper, take a breather and get my creative juices flowing, I unwrap this pack  and reread each note and touch each item.

Thank you The Page #2. Good travels.

Superself.

Do you ever have those moments of self-accomplishment or that thought of, "how the hell did I do all of that?" Well, I do and currently I feel like I just may be one of the Batmans in the picture (sorry, Robin). Tuesday night, I started to get a little something going on in my head and by Wednesday morning I could not hear a thing and my tonsils were crazy swollen. I stayed in bed all day Wednesday and Thursday self medicating, hoping to be better by Friday for my work shift. I was not. But that night, I was 100 percent better. Good enough for my two 9 hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday. I also managed to clean my entire house, start a 15 page paper, and fit in a nice little dinner date tonight.

Oh, and I also managed to keep working through a 9 hour shift with a foot incident.

Did you do anything this weekend to make you your own superhero?

channel ORANGE.

From writing for John Legend and Beyonce to teaming up with Odd Future to then self-releasing a mixtape (nostalgia. ULTRA) and then, in under a year, releasing his first full album -- this man is unreal. Frank Ocean has become a riveting force in R&B and this should not be surprising. This is an artist that values the music and values the words that come into his mind. His first album, Channel Orange,  drops 7.17.12 with "Thinking About You" and "Pyramids" on it. There are also collaborations with John Mayer, Andre 300, and Earl Sweatshirt. This should be insane. If you haven't done so already you can check out "Pyramids" over at his site. Also, check out Frank Ocean's performance at Coachella -- any man that opens his set up with Bob Dylan (nonetheless a Bob Dylan song that might be more famous now from Frank Ocean), well, he is a gem to say the least.

On This Saturday...

(Honey bears at the Farmer's Market)

Happy weekend! Any big plans? I have to work all weekend, but I'm happy as long as I have my mornings. I might run to the Farmer's Market this morning and grab a coffee to sit by the lake with. Or maybe I should go for a quick hike through Buttermilk this morning. If any of you have not been to Ithaca, clear a weekend out to come visit. It is a breathtakingly beautiful town. Anyways, here are some treats to keep you entertained while I work all day.

A darling post on HelloGiggles about The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Post a fun recipe for Ithaca's Farmer Market here. (Be sure to get the cookbook!)

Watch the beautiful trailer of Anna Karenina from (one of my favorite directors)  Joe Wright.

I love this cover of 'I Know What I Know'.

And I love jj. I think this chick is super cool and one of a kind. You can download her new digital ep here for free.

The honest list of what we all really wanted as kids.

And finally, how cute are these looks from Gap?

Come stop by the store and let's style you cute!

Crayon Ponyfish.

This Crayon Ponyfish always cheers me up. I wish these were real and I wish I was like Steve Zissou with all his animals.

Down By The Water.

I wish I spent the day at the beach.

Wearing this bathing suit:

With this as a night time cover-up:

And a cooler filled with this:

But, I had none of this today.

Paint.

Woo! Today is the first day of summer and, man, does it feel like it. Here, in Ithaca, it has been in the nineties all day, which makes it almost impossible to be outside for too long. So, today I sought refuge (and air conditioning) at the mall where I picked up some painting supplies for a mason jar project and some easy fun with a friend.

How are you staying cool?

"V/H/S"

Since way back when, I have been a little curious about the Sundance horror flick, "V/H/S". I'm usually not a fan of horror but American Horror Story has showed me that horror can be accomplished in very witty ways that I have come to appreciate it. "V/H/S" is a found-footage film that centers around a group of thieves hired to get a VHS tape from a house. When they break into the house they realize that there are rooms filled of tapes and they must watch each one. These different stories are also directed by various directors, which can give a film an extra dose of realness.

Below is the trailer that was just released today and it is absolutely terrifying. Read more about it over at Indiewire.

I promise a more uplifting post later on.

Sigur Rós, Shia Labeouf, and Alma Har'el.

Another video was released today for the Valtari Mystery Film Experiment created by Sigur Rós. If you are not aware of the Mystery Film Experiment, Sigur Rós asked filmmakers to create videos of whatever came to their mind while listening to a song from Valtari. Today's film, is for Fjögur píanó , and was created by Alma Har'el. It stares Shia Labeouf and Denna Thomson in an unhealthy relationship and eating scorpion lollipops, hallucinating, dancing, dressing in drag and more. While I am still trying to grasp the whole idea of the video, I find it to be absolutely beautiful with amazing performance by Shia and Denna. There is such a great amount of emotion pouring from the video and it  is overall pleasing to watch. I actually cannot believe this is the same boy from Even Stevens, but I love it. Please watch below.

Also, Alma Har'el is one of the most amazing filmmakers of today. Her music videos are absolutely stunning captures of powerful images, emotions, and a clear concept of characters. While her work mostly consists of music videos, she has released her first filmed, Bombay Beach. Not only is the film absolutely beautiful, the soundtrack is killer. Check it out via Focus World. Trailer below

Hotel Chevalier.

Red Jacket Raspberry apple juice and Wes Anderson. I could watch Hotel Chevalier every day for the rest of my life. Every time I watch it I fell in love with another element of it that I somehow missed before. There are some constant favorites, however. For instance, I love how Jack [Jason] tries to make everything perfect before his ex-grilfriend [Natalie] comes - with the music, showering, and trying to put on the right face for her. I love how at first Natalie is the dominant characters - saying so little, interegating Jason, and chewing on her toothpick. Oh and that boot scene, so powerful. Then, Jason tells it how it is with these lines.

Ex-girlfriend: Whatever happens in the end, I don't wanna lose you as my friend.
Jack: I promise, I will never be your friend. No matter what. Ever.
Ex-girlfriend: If we fuck I'm gonna feel like shit tomorrow.
Jack: That's okay with me.
Ex-girlfriend: I love you. I never hurt you on purpose.
Jack: I don't care.

And I love how Natalie probably borrowed Wes Anderson's pants for the film.

The world is on a Wes Anderson kick and I love it.

Sunday with The Kinks.

The Kinks are the perfect soundtrack to a Sunday night. I love their wanderlust and retrospect of life and meeting new people.

Greatest Hits.

Whether this sounds too much like Stealers Wheel or not, I am in love with it. Anyone else?

Mystery Jets. Greatest Hits, Radlands.

A Love Affair With Ben Gibbard.

Here is a cover of the Stars song, "Set Yourself On Fire," by Ben Gibbard. I should confess that Ben Gibbard and I once had a love affair when I was in high school. Although, he does not know of this love affair it was meaningful and was Bon Iverotica before Bon Iverotica. He was my everything and sang me to sleep every night. Death Cab for Cutie's Narrow Stairs was released right when I went through the worst break up I will ever endure. He got me.

While this all sounds crazy, I cannot help but go right back to the times I only played Death Cab. Till this day I know every lyric, every cover and every spin-off project. Today, though, I rarely play them and I wonder why.

Band Wanted.

Best Coast released a video for "The Only Place" a few days back and, naturally, they killed it. (They better start selling the jackets they wear in the video online.) But even more importantly they just reinstated my burning desire to be in a girl/boy duo. You know the one where there is a kick-ass female singer and a male ripping up the track? If my writing skills, vocals and confidence ever pick up, that is what I will do in life. Just think about it there is The Kills, Beach House, Sleigh Bells, Beast Coast, Cults, Tennis, The Blow, Xiu Xiu, She & Him, The Knife, and probably hundreds more. Of course there is the White Stripes, but I'm bringing out the feminist in me and preaching about the ladies that are the Jack Whites of the show. These ladies define cool in my book and the guys are rad too, don't get me wrong.

Who is your favorite girl/boy rock duo?

For A Good Time, Call...

Check out the Focus Features film that helped define my time being a publicity intern at Focus Features. Damn, I miss those days.

Alabama Shakes.

Alabama Shakes is a band that has continued to impress me since I first listen to the track, "Hold On." I remember the moment specifically. I was driving up to Ithaca to visit my friends and I was at the point of the drive where emotions start to get overwhelming. I thought of everything from past relationships, how I was going to say goodbye to people at my internship, what I was going to do with my life after college ("No, I can't be a senior), and simply wondering how I would make it through everything to get where I wanted to go. And like a blessing, that is when "Hold On" started pumping through my Sirius radio. Brittany Howard screamed:

So, bless my heart.
Bless my mind.
I got so much to do, I ain't got much time
So, must be someone up above saying "Come on girl! You got to get back up!!"

And, damn, did those lyrics stick. And while, "Hold On", is their break out hit. Their album Boys and Girls is legendary. My favorite right now is "Hang Loose."

Do yourself a favor and get into this band.

Paris vs. New York

"Let me put it this way, if Paris and NY were men, Paris would be more like the romantic guy that opens the door for you before you get into a car, you know, that guy who is so charming and perfect in every way, the safe bet, he almost seems too perfect. New York, however, would be the guy that just comes and sweeps you off your feet, that guy who takes your breath away, literally. The one you meet and almost instantly fall in love with, the one who is very difficult to trust but even more difficult to forget, that is New York. So let me ask you something, who would you take, Paris or New York?"

-Andy Torres

The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

I laid in bed reading my favorite quotes from The Perks of Being a Wallflower. This book has always made me so hopeful in myself and in relationships. Also, I have always had a crush on Charlie.

“I just don't want you to worry about me, or think you've met me, or waste your time anymore.”

“there is this one photograph... that is just beautiful. it would be impossible to describe how beautiful it is, but i’ll try. if you listen to the song “asleep,” and you think about those pretty weather days that make you remember things, and you think about the prettiest eyes you’ve known, and you cry and the person holds you back, then i think you will see the photograph. ”

“It's just that I don't want to be somebody's crush. If somebody likes me, I want them to like the real me, not what they think I am. And I don't want them to carry it around inside. I want them to show me, so I can feel it too.”

“You can't just sit there and put everyone's lives ahead of yours and think that counts as love. You just can't. You have to do things.”

“Everyone else is either asleep or having sex. I've been watching cable television and eating jello.”

“There's nothing like deep breaths after laughing that hard. Nothing in the world like a sore stomach for the right reasons.”

“I just want you to know that you’re very special… and the only reason I’m telling you is that I don’t know if anyone else ever has.”

“What about when someone doesn't need a shoulder? What if they need the arms?”

And my personal favorite: “we accept the love we think we deserve.”

The Boy Who Picked Flowers For Me.

I miss living in Brooklyn. I miss waking up and getting ready as fast as I can to go down to Iris Cafe to get coffee and avocado toast, saying 'good morning' to the waterfront then just walking where ever I wanted to. I miss those walks, especially the ones I had during my last week there when I met a very cool stranger.

I walked to Prospect Park and stayed there for hours until the sun went down then walked all the way home. I had ice cream in hand and even met an adorable boy who was just walking aimlessly, as well, and happened to help me pick out the most perfect bouquet of flowers (that look identical to the picture above) to put in a wine bottle I had kept. He picked out all kinds of flowers, almost as if he had done it before, and it was a darling thing to look at. He was one of the sweetest strangers I have ever met and not until today had I really looked back on him. I wish I had invited him back to put the flowers in the bottle and a glass of lemonade.

Oh, that cute Brooklyn boy that helped me pick out flowers, it was so nice to meet you.

Song of that day:

tiger in a jar.

As I lounge around in my owl PJ's and eat a box full of blueberries, I have realized that I have fallen head over heels in love. Love, love, love. So, just who do I admire? The cute boy at the coffee shop? That residential neighbor? One of the boys from Grizzly Bear? All wrong. I have fallen for the adorable duo behind tiger in a jar.

tiger in a jar is a husband and wife team who create beautiful, breathtaking videos of their own ideas, as well as others. Their videos showcase everything from recipes, weddings, hairdo's, and much more, all in a classic way. The look of all the videos and the easy music just makes my heart pitter patter. Congratulations on being the sweetest couple out there!

I'll share with you some of my favorites, so far:

Lazuli.

Good morning! Nothing makes me happier than waking up to a new Beach House music video for Lazuli. It is bright and trippy with a cool lighthouse and a late 80's vibe. I dig it.

Victoria is the coolest broad out there.

Bonnaroo Blues.

First of all, welcome to Tunes Tuesday! Most blogs have Music Monday but I'm giving you all a special treat for Tuesdays. Because let's be honest, Tuesday really has nothing going for itself.

This week is special because we are just two days away from kicking off Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee. I have always wanted to go to Bonnaroo but every time there are too many loose ends that end up not getting tied. But, thanks for the Internet, there are endless playlists and live streaming that give me an excuse to make a fort in my house and imagine myself camping out with all these musicians.

Here are two playlists I have on repeat right now:

1. Spotify (from the Bonnaroo people, themselves)

2. RCRDLBL

My number one act to see, The Beach Boys:

And it wouldn't be a Bonnaroo blog post without some outfit ideas:

(fitted with daises dresspunky fan jumper,  metallic telltale tankrosette panorama shortsflynn sandal, the carrybag hepcat shades, salena crochet texture hat)

Another rad part about Bonnaroo is the special pre-release screening of Beasts of the Southern Wild. This film has been getting amazing press from Sundance and Tribeca. I cannot wait to see it.

Happy Sunday!

After a wonderful visit from Fran and her friend Cassandra, the weekend winds down with a morning shift at Gap and some seriously needed lounging. We spent the weekend eating delicious food and chatting over some wine. They were the sweetest and brought me some strawberries and blueberries from a farm and some delicious doughnuts. We also went to the Ithaca Farmer's Market on Saturday and sat by the lake eating a variety of food and drinks. My personal favorites were the Macro Mamas peanut lime noodles and a fresh cup of iced green tea. Yummy!

These two videos have made my feet and heart dance all day.

First. Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros performing Man on Fire. I just want to dance and sing with friends to their new album.

Second. One of my favorite ladies in my life finds the most adorable and whimsical things; from bars to videos to stores and everything else. Today, she shared with me this beautiful video of a wedding that looks exactly like the ones I have in my dreams. Oh, be still my little young heart.

Check out my friends blog here and the video below.

Now I'm going to enter the dream-like world of Lars von Trier. Expect a post about it soon.

Relationship Blabber.

Lately, I have been thinking about what a relationship and the term "romantic" means. I have my own definitions, as does everyone else, but how do these definitions come into play and how much do we stick to them? For instance, is a relationship when you meet someone who is reading the same dictionary as you? Or is it settling for which ever dictionary the boy or girl that shows you the slightest attention is reading? Can you teach or learn to look at a "romantic relationship" in a different way?

Or we can over analyze everything about a relationship, like I am doing now. But I guess what I am trying to say is I have realized I do not want a typical relationship. I don't want to lay in bed all day and get gain boyfriend pounds or have a set date night. There doesn't need to be any titles of what we are to each other, because titles just ruin everything. Just two people who love each other's company, thoughts, and laughs but who need space from time to time. I want anything I love in my life to be easy, sincere and unquestionable. I want someone to be my best friend who will do silly things with me out of his own curiosity, not because I want to. I want someone who can sit on a rooftop with strangers and watch old movies then go for a walk around the neighborhood. Someone who is so caught up with his own thoughts and ideas that every time we see each other he has a new project in the works or just heard the coolest band.

As Hannah from GIRLS said, "I just want someone who...thinks I'm the best person in the world..."

I should get out more.
