Save The Date.

There are certain movie trailers that make me weak in the knees, mostly with anxiety over how long I have to wait to see the whole movie. I watch them over and over again and mark a little note on to my calendar of their VOD and release date. The latest trailer to hit me in the knees is 'Save The Date.' (What an appropriate title, right?) IFC snagged 'Save The Date' after its premiere at this year's Sundance Film Festival. The cast is filled with indie film favorites including Lizzy Caplan, Allison Brie, Martin Starr, Geoffrey Arend, and Mark Webber.

Trailer:

I am most excited to see Lizzy Caplan in her long-awaited break out role. The girl kills every film she is in with her flawless acting and awesome use of sarcasm and humor. I really wouldn't mind being her friend.

Also, how adorable are those sketches?

Get Lost.

Fall break is finally here! All the colleges kids have raced home to be pampered with home cooked meals, relaxation, and the company of family. What is better than that? I still have one more night till I get to do all these things but boy am I licking my chops. Tonight, however, will be just as spectacular as hanging out with my mom and cat. I'm seeing Searching for Sugar Man right before seeing my beloved Cat Power. Ah! So excited!

What are your plans for this weekend? I dare you to experience some culture. Go to a show, see an independent, go to a museum, anything! Get lost.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

This past weekend I went to my beloved Cinemapolis alone and snuggled up to The Perks of Being a Wallflower. In high school, I was in love with the novel. I had a crush on Charlie and imagined myself growing up to be Sam's best friend. Everything the characters said in the book was exactly what I wanted to hear. Needless to say, I brushed off old Smiths albums from record stores and sank away into myself...just as I did this past weekend.

As a sat alone in Theater Five with a small popcorn, I began to get a little nervous. Here I was -- twenty years old and a senior in college about to watch a storyline that resonated so much with my fourteen- seventeen-year-old self. The self that frequently stayed home on the weekends to listen to bands that were too sophisticated for her. The self that read Charles Bukowski and Sylvia Plath and was scared yet comforted to think that these might be her only friends. And the self that was never quite cool enough because it wasn't cool to publish poetry that you write (or to even write poetry). But this movie made me miss that me and I never thought anything could do that to me.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is the type of film that will leave you dizzy while you smile and tear up at the same time. You may even leave the theater feeling like you are right next to your high school self.

In The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Charlie's favorite Smiths song is Asleep. Mine in high school is below:

Thursday Inspiration.

  Anthony Robbins

“One’s Personal Legend is what you have always wanted to accomplish. Everyone, when they are young, knows what their Personal Legend is. At that point in their lives, everything is clear and everything is possible. They are not afraid to dream, and to yearn for everything they would like to see happen to them in their lives. But, as time passes, a mysterious force begins to convince them that it will be impossible for them to realize their Personal Legend… whoever you are, or whatever it is that you do, when you really want something, it’s because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. It’s your mission on earth."

Favorite Movie.

What is your favorite movie? I know everyone hates this questions, but I truly believe that everyone has the one movie they just cannot get enough of. I hold my favorite so dear to my heart that sometimes I say another movie just so people do not criticize it. My favorite movie since high school has always been Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Yes, this is a very common answer but for me, this movie has a lot of meaning in it and behind it.

I got the DVD for Christmas my sophomore year in high school. It was the first item on my list and I had never even seen it. I read one article about it, watched the trailer, and was immediately sucked in. That Christmas, I spent the entire day watching Eternal Sunshine on repeat while my family tried on all their new clothes and prepared Christmas dinner. I was absolutely struck with emotion and most importantly, thought. I had never seen a movie that I did not know the ending to. I had to really get involved with the characters. Most movies I watched at this time were generic and romantic comedies with the same ending and the same characters just played by another actress.

But not Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Charlie Kaufman's screenplay is unique and confusing with characters that are desperate but beautiful human beings. Michael Gondry's vision is absolutely breathtaking. I could watch Eternal Sunshine with the sound off and still have the same emotions I feel listening to Joel and Clementine.

So, what is your favorite movie? How does it make you feel? Where were you the first time you saw it?

Nobody Walks.

Tonight I snuggled up with my big floral pillow, purple blanket, lit some candles, drank some tea, and put all my attention on Nobody Walks. Nobody Walks is Ry Russo-Young's third feature film that he wrote with the help of Lena Dunham (Tiny Furniture and Girls). It premiered back at Sundance and is loaded with a great cast: Olivia Thirlby, John Krasinski, Justin Kirk and Rosemarie Dewitt. The film is so visually pleasing, even so that I found myself constantly zoning in on the aesthetics and not paying any attention to the story line at hand. I think this is due to the over told story of the sexual desire to have another when you cannot. Some of these stories are told amazingly well (See, Last Night), but then you have films like Nobody Walks that seem like a jumble of thoughts, cravings, and characters that it all just gets kind of old real fast. I had so much hope in this film with a such a talented cast, brilliant screenwriters, beautiful scenes, thrilling trailer. Everything just kind of fell flat for me.

But go judge for yourself, Nobody Walks hits theaters October 12 or check it out on iTunes.

Kinfolk - Autumn

As stated once before, I love Kinfolk. Their sense of style with life's most beautiful things always make me melt in my chair. Today, Kinfolk released a video for Volume Five. Volume Five is a continued celebration of life and small gatherings that are focused on Autumn. The video they have created is absolutely beautiful  and simple and really showcases the simplicity and homey-ness of the textures, colors, and beings of Autumn. Watch below as my forest green grandpa sweater and I go and attempt to make some acorn squash!
